The Production Company - History

The production company launched out of Miranda in Sydney's south early 2002. Co-founders Brendan Southall, (Video Producer) and Chris Schwager, (Creative Director) were former school buddies from De La Salle Cronulla. They had worked on creative projects together but for it to be sustainable and earn a living, they needed to do more. They began producing video productions for corporate, government and small business. No easy task, when they could barely afford a telephone. 

They combined any useful equipment and furniture and took on a large office in Taren Point (yes THE SHIRE!). Their idea of an office with signage meant when welcoming clients in, they'd see the big office and lay their money down. That worked for a while, but the experience only bought some clients. The rest stayed at their desk in the city. However, business grew doubling in size every year, and within 3 years they had secured video productions with clients such as Telstra, Woolworths and Westpac.

During 2005/07, they stretched themselves further, experimenting with other ventures such as e-learning, print and training companies, which seamed like good ideas at the time but went nowhere. The lads needed focus and a way of defining the business so it could stand out from the crowd. 

Around 2008 when popularity was rising for online video, www.clivevideo.com was born (TV Presenter and online video joint venture with maxys.com). CLIVE streamed over a million videos within it's first 18 months. It brought more diverse clients such as St George Dragons, Harvey World Travel and The Good Guys. Chris got to direct all sorts of celebrities like, Wendell Sailor, Hugh Jackman and Tim Freeman, while Brendan stayed behind his desk most of the time finding ways to streamline the business. 

'The CLIVE Project' generated the need to operate a more flexible and mobile video service. Chris migrated systems into a mobile video studio solution that could be anywhere in the country, at the drop of a hat. While Brendan took advantage of increased technological advances, that really meant uploading all the business systems to the web.

In August 2011, Ridge became fully mobile and increased it's network of experienced video crew across Australia. Chris and Brendan could now accommodate clients with temporary boardroom studios either on site or in the heart of the city. The fast, flexible and efficient service, only wished for in 2002, had finally arrived.

Brendan and Chris have made Ridge Films what it is today. Online video and other systems they've implemented, enable a robust and reliable turnaround on all video projects, but that's just 'process'. The business has always thrived on it's customers, the people at the forefront of every job they score. They're the reason Ridge Films has grown and developed so well. These two shy individuals who knew so little about business all those years ago, now help lead the way in the corporate video market with confidence, humility and passion.
