State Super Financial Services - Commercial Video Case Study

We were looking to extend the way we were communicating with our members. We have a range of fact sheets, but you know it can be quite a dry subject. Our initial meeting was with Brendan; we came away from that meeting feeling very comfortable with him, he was very enthusiastic about it. He really took the time to understand what we were trying to achieve from the project, which was a series of five videos in one hit rather than doing one and then waiting six months and then coming back and doing another one.

We then met with Chris. Chris worked with us to really flesh out what was the key points that we were trying to say. He took a very, quite technical script in its first format and really extracted the core communication that we needed to achieve from that and then visually what would work to get that message across to our members as well.

The great thing about using a professional video company is that they can turn your idea into a reality, so it was a very interesting process for us and it would be something that I’d say if ever you’re doing a video, you’ve got to spend the time to get the script right up the front because we would have ended up with five ten-minute videos which nobody would have watched.

Chris and Brendan both understood what we were trying to achieve by using the clear screen over the usual animations that you see in so many videos. And we just wanted to create something that was a little bit fresh, a little bit different and that would hold the audience’s attention.

We went down to Ridge Films studios and it was just a very friendly, fun vibe, very natural and made our presenter feel very comfortable. We did the first take of the video and then Chris took us out into his editing suite and we had a look at the first cut of the footage. I think at that point, we all knew this was going to be something very special and we’d really nailed it.

It’s not about finding a video production company to shoot a video for you, it’s about finding a partner who will work with you, understand what you’re trying to achieve and deliver that to a standard that blows you away and ultimately, the end result is you get a product back at the end – for us was five videos – that needed no work because Ridge Films had taken that time to really understand what we wanted to achieve and we ended up with five fabulous videos.
