How a Government Consulting Firm Cuts Video Production by 90%

For Heather Hukins, Managing Director of H4 Consulting, delivering structured training and policy advice to government and public-sector clients meant constant travel and saying the same thing in room after room. The Same Training, 10,000 Times Over

Before any of this, Heather was flying around the country delivering training in person, room after room. It worked, but it wasn't sustainable, for her or for the government and public-sector clients footing the bill.

Then COVID stopped the travel, and what replaced it wasn't better. Heather spent hours delivering training to a blank screen, to a room of muted, camera-off strangers. It was, in her words, unbelievably tedious and stressful.

From a Desk Beside the Fridge to a Purpose-Built Booth

H4 Consulting's first setup with Ridge Films, back in 2021, was about as basic as it gets, a small rig squeezed in beside the office fridge. It still worked: the first package of training videos Heather made paid for the entire setup in a single sale.

But a small, exposed setup on a busy street came with its own problems. Recording sessions were constantly interrupted by traffic noise, a doorbell, and, without fail, the bin truck. “The weakest link in our filming wasn't me, it was the environmental noise that kept interrupting our takes,” Heather says.

When H4 Consulting moved offices in early 2026, Ridge Films came back to do it properly: a custom Studiobricks acoustic booth built by Envoy, with the Desktop Studio integrated inside it. Ridge Films also brought Heather's VA, Pinky, into the process, so the team could keep the setup dialled in with confidence instead of being too nervous to touch it.

From Two Hours to Twelve Minutes

The new setup changed what's actually possible. “It could take us two hours to produce six minutes of video content. Now it takes 12 minutes,” Heather says. Two good takes, and she's back to client work.

It also changed how last-minute a job can be. When a client didn't confirm a training brief until after lunch the day before Heather had to fly out, she filmed it on the spot, in one sitting, and made her flight the next morning.

Beyond individual sessions, the studio now powers a fortnightly video email to H4's subscriber base of busy public-sector executives, plus a growing YouTube channel. Both are deliberately low-key: Heather's clients operate under real public scrutiny, where authenticity and demonstrated value matter far more than a sales pitch, so the videos are built to stay quietly top of mind rather than push an offer.
