Video Script Writing That Wins Clients

video marketing podcast Mar 04, 2026

Many professionals struggle with video script writing because they start in the wrong place. They focus on cameras, performance, and editing before they clarify the message.

When the message is unclear, the video becomes harder to record. Delivery feels awkward. Ideas become scattered. And viewers walk away unsure of what the video was actually trying to say.

Strong video script writing solves this problem. It clarifies the purpose of the video, simplifies the message, and allows the presenter to focus purely on delivery once recording begins.

In this episode of the Video Confidence Collective Podcast, Chris Schwager explains why structure is the real driver behind effective video communication and how professionals should approach video script structure if they want their content to influence decisions.

Most Businesses Produce the Wrong Type of Video Content

One of the biggest issues in video script writing is that businesses rely almost entirely on educational content.

Education feels safe. It demonstrates expertise and helps explain ideas. But educational videos rarely move prospects toward a decision.

Many organisations overlook three powerful formats that should sit at the centre of a strong video marketing script strategy.

Stories create emotional connection. Demonstrations reveal how you actually solve client problems. Decision-driving videos such as testimonials, case studies, and process explainers guide viewers toward the next step.

Without these formats, video script writing becomes informative but ineffective. The viewer learns something but does not feel compelled to act.

Why Structure Creates Confidence on Camera

Confidence on video is often misunderstood.

Many professionals assume that confidence comes from experience, personality, or natural speaking ability. In reality, it usually comes from structure.

Clear video script structure removes the need to invent ideas while recording. The presenter already knows the audience, the goal of the video, and the key message that needs to land.

This is why strong video script writing reduces cognitive load so dramatically. Instead of juggling ideas, delivery, and timing at the same moment, each part of the process is separated.

When the script is clear, the presenter can focus on pace, tone, energy, and connection with the viewer.

How ChatGPT Should Support Video Script Writing

AI tools such as ChatGPT can be extremely helpful in video script writing, but only when they are used correctly.

Many people ask AI to generate video ideas or write scripts from scratch. The result is often generic content that shows expertise but lacks strategic direction.

ChatGPT works best when it supports structure rather than replacing thinking.

When you provide the right inputs such as the audience, the goal of the video, and the key messages, AI can help refine phrasing, explore variations, and improve the clarity of your business video script.

But the thinking still needs to come from you.

“ChatGPT doesn’t fix bad thinking. It amplifies it.”

Clear Scripts Lead to Better Business Videos

If you want video content that builds trust and moves people toward a decision, the starting point is not better cameras or editing.

It is video script writing.

A well structured script ensures your message is intentional, audience focused, and aligned with your business goals. It simplifies the recording process and creates videos that guide viewers toward action.

For professionals who want a repeatable system for producing consistent video content, strong video script writing is the foundation.

[00:00:00] Chris Schwager: Right. Let's talk about script writing and more specifically ChatGPT's role in it, because this is where I see a lot of people battling unnecessarily. Don't battle. Don't battle. They're writing scripts without structure. They're guessing what content they should be producing. They're defaulting to education only videos because that feels safe, and then they wonder why their videos aren't moving people forward towards a decision.

[00:00:24] Chris Schwager: In this episode, I want to reset how you think about video script writing, how ChatGPT should be used inside that process, and why structure, not talent, is what actually creates clarity, confidence, and conversion.

[00:00:30] Chris Schwager: Hi, I'm Chris Schwager, video coach and founder of the Complete Video Success System, and I've spent decades helping professionals create videos that build trust, generate leads, and drive business success.

[00:00:45] Chris Schwager: And if you've ever felt unsure or under prepared or just plain awkward with video, this is for you. I'll give you the mindset and strategies to take control and build video confidence so that you show up like a pro. It's time to make your videos work for you.

[00:01:02] Chris Schwager: Let's start with a big misunderstanding. ChatGPT doesn't fix bad thinking. It amplifies it.

[00:01:10] Chris Schwager: If you don't understand structure or audience or purpose, you can still generate a script, but that script simply won't work.

[00:01:15] Chris Schwager: What I often see people doing is using ChatGPT to generate ideas rather than intent. They produce lists of social media posts, generic hooks, and education heavy scripts that show expertise but don't guide viewers toward a decision.

[00:01:30] Chris Schwager: That's the problem. Most businesses overproduce educational content and under utilise three of the most powerful formats available to them.

[00:01:38] Chris Schwager: Stories are wildly under utilised in business, yet they're the fastest way to build emotional connection and trust.

[00:01:45] Chris Schwager: Demonstrations are just as neglected. Show me how you do it. Show me scenarios. Show me real world examples of how you've helped clients resolve issues.

[00:02:00] Chris Schwager: That's what people actually want to consume because it takes them behind the scenes of how you work.

[00:02:06] Chris Schwager: And then there are decision driving videos. Testimonials, case studies, process explainers. These are often left until the very end or treated as an afterthought when they should really be doing the heavy lifting inside sales and marketing.

[00:02:15] Chris Schwager: This is where video script writing really matters. When you move away from thinking purely about social media and start thinking about the impact scripts have inside your business, on your website, in your sales conversions, and in prospect nurture, everything changes.

[00:02:33] Chris Schwager: Scripts bring clarity. Clarity of message, clarity of audience, clarity of purpose.

[00:02:40] Chris Schwager: And that clarity is what supports decision making.

[00:02:45] Chris Schwager: Now let's talk about ChatGPT's role in this. ChatGPT is brilliant when it's used to support structure, not replace thinking.

[00:02:56] Chris Schwager: It helps you explore angles, refine messaging, pressure test clarity, and bring consistency across scripts, but only if you give it the right inputs.

[00:03:00] Chris Schwager: Remember I said don't battle with it. When you sit down to write a script with or without ChatGPT, there are only a few things you should really focus on at that moment.

[00:03:10] Chris Schwager: Who is it for? Where does the video live? What is the goal of the video? What are the key messages that must land?

[00:03:20] Chris Schwager: And that's it. You're not worrying about cameras. You're not worrying about performance. You're not worrying about editing. You're just focused on the messaging.

[00:03:30] Chris Schwager: This is why scripting reduces the cognitive load so dramatically because you're separating thinking from performance. One job at a time.

[00:03:38] Chris Schwager: And here's something that most people don't realise. A lot of video production companies avoid teleprompters and scripting because they're fearful of coaching inexperienced presenters.

[00:03:45] Chris Schwager: It takes time. It costs them money. People freeze. They stumble. They get in their heads about it, and the whole production day blows out.

[00:03:56] Chris Schwager: But the irony is even if the performance isn't perfect, a clear script still delivers a clear message.

[00:04:05] Chris Schwager: Clarity persuades. If the message is structured, intentional, and audience aware, confidence builds naturally.

[00:04:15] Chris Schwager: The viewer feels spoken to, understood, and well guided. That's far more powerful than a perfectly polished ad lib that goes nowhere.

[00:04:25] Chris Schwager: This is also why relying purely on ad lib delivery is dangerous. Most people can't simplify their message on the fly.

[00:04:30] Chris Schwager: They ramble. They over explain. They bury the point.

[00:04:36] Chris Schwager: And yes, editors can clean that up, but then who controls the message? The presenter or the editor?

[00:04:45] Chris Schwager: When you write the script, you control the message. You decide what matters. You decide what gets said. You decide what the viewer walks away with.

[00:05:00] Chris Schwager: This is where ChatGPT becomes incredibly valuable. Not because it writes for you, but because it helps you think better.

[00:05:05] Chris Schwager: It helps you see gaps, tighten phrasing, test clarity, and explore variations.

[00:05:12] Chris Schwager: And by the time you step in front of the camera, your only job is performance. Speed, tone, energy, cadence, body language.

[00:05:20] Chris Schwager: The message has already been handled. That's when video script writing stops feeling hard and starts feeling powerful.

[00:05:25] Chris Schwager: Just quickly, if you're ready to take control of your video production but feel stuck, check out the Video Confidence Collective.

[00:05:30] Chris Schwager: It's live coaching in a supportive community. We cover four essentials: tech, messaging, on camera presence, and implementation so you can create consistent, confident content that truly connects.

[00:05:42] Chris Schwager: Now back to the episode.

[00:05:45] Chris Schwager: If you want video script writing that actually wins clients, stop winging it and start taking control of the message.

[00:05:52] Chris Schwager: Use ChatGPT to support structure, not replace strategy.

[00:05:56] Chris Schwager: Diversify your content beyond education. Lean into stories, demonstrations, and decision driving videos.

[00:06:00] Chris Schwager: And separate thinking from performance.

[00:06:05] Chris Schwager: When the message is clear, confidence follows. And when people feel spoken to directly, trust builds fast.

[00:06:12] Chris Schwager: Remember this. The way you show up on video reflects who shows up in your business.
