How to Swap Your Camera Power Supply
Aug 25, 2025If your camera suddenly loses power during recording, it can feel like everything grinds to a halt. The good news is that with the right steps, swapping your camera power supply is quick and simple. This troubleshooting guide walks you through the process, helping you avoid downtime and keep your studio upgrades running smoothly.
Step 1: Remove the Teleprompter Drape
Start by removing the black teleprompter drape. This gives you access to the camera and clears the way for the next steps.
Step 2: Release the Camera from the Quick-Release Plate
Push in the small lever, then slide the larger lever to the right. This unlocks the quick-release plate. Carefully lift and turn the camera to the side so you can reach the power supply compartment.
Step 3: Access the Battery Compartment
Pull the latch to open the spring-loaded battery door. Inside, you’ll see the dummy battery connected to a cable. This is the component you’ll be swapping.
Step 4: Remove the Dummy Battery
Push the small switch on the compartment to the right. The dummy battery will spring out. Gently pull it free from the housing.
Step 5: Insert the New Power Supply
Slide the replacement battery or dummy battery back in until it clicks into place. Make sure the cable feeds neatly through the rubber stop. If the cable isn’t aligned through the gap, the door will not close properly. Once set, shut the door and secure the latch.
Step 6: Re-Mount the Camera
Place the camera back onto the shoe mount. Push it down firmly until you hear the click that confirms it is locked safely.
Step 7: Replace the Teleprompter Drape
Drape the fabric back over the camera. Always double-check that the lens is clear from the black fabric — otherwise, you’ll block your shot and see nothing on screen.
Knowing how to troubleshoot and replace a camera power supply means fewer delays, less frustration, and more reliable results from your desktop studio. It’s a small step that ensures your setup is always ready to capture professional-quality video when you need it most.
