Keylight Not Working? What to Do When Your Keylight Fails
Feb 12, 2025If your key light isn’t turning on, this troubleshooting guide will help you identify the issue and get it back up and running. Follow these steps to check the power supply, connections, and settings before considering a replacement.
Step 1: Check the Key Light Connection
- Start at the key light and follow the power cable down to the first connection point.
- This is a robust connection, but make sure it is firmly in place.
Step 2: Check the Transformer Switch
- Locate the transformer and ensure it is in the correct state.
- There is a small switch on the side—it should be set to “2”.
- If it’s on “1” or in the middle, the light won’t turn on.
- This can accidentally get bumped if cables have been moved under your desk.
Step 3: Ensure the Transformer Connection Is Secure
- Follow the cable from the transformer toward the power board.
- You’ll come across another transformer connection—make sure it is firmly plugged in.
Step 4: Check the Power Supply Connection
- If your desk is a sit-stand desk, frequent adjustments may pull cables loose over time.
- Even if the power plug looks connected, push it in firmly to ensure it hasn’t slightly come out.
- A loose power connection can be the difference between the light working or not.
Step 5: Test with Another Power Input
- Before switching to a different input, confirm that the power board itself is working.
- If other connected devices are working, swap the key light’s plug into another power input to see if the issue is with the outlet.
Different Transformer Models
- Some key lights come with a smaller transformer instead of the standard large one.
- If your model has a luminance dial instead of a push-button display, make sure the dial is turned up and the light is switched on.
- Just like cables under your desk, this dial can accidentally get bumped, so double-check its position.
By following these steps, you can quickly identify whether the issue is a loose connection, a power supply problem, or something else. If none of these steps resolve the issue, further troubleshooting or replacement may be needed.
