By listening in each week you'll learn how each video marketing problem is solved, giving you the knowledge that will make your videos more valuable. And so you come across as a true business professional on the open market.

I'm your host, Chris Schwager. Alright, today's Get Coached question was submitted at ridgefilms.com.au/questions. And it's from Tristan. And what Tristan wants to know is how do I increase views on my videos? And this is a fantastic question, because we all want to know how our video marketing is working.

Okay, so this is what you need to do Tristan. And I'm going to give you three different takeaways that I think will be ideal for you. Because what we've found with a lot of our clients is that they put a video on their website, for instance, at the bottom of the page, when they put a hyperlink when they put a clever little white player that the web development team have put on there, and nobody can find the video. If nobody can find the video, they can't access it easily, you're going to lose opportunities in terms of viewership, because people don't know where the video is.

So three separate things that you can do to increase your plays and views. Get the player positioned correctly on your website. So if you've got a video asset, say for argument's sake, Company Profile video that demonstrates the capability of your organisation in video form, where would you think would be a good place to put that?ding, ding, you're right, it's going to be at the top of the website page before the fold, where people can access it easily. They know what they should be doing. It's right there in front of them. And so the size of the player should not be too big, it should not be too small. You want to give it some context, so that people know what they're going to get as a result of clicking play. And that takes me to the next point.

What are you going to do in terms of the thumbnail image. What I'm talking about thumbnail, I'm talking about the placeholder, I'm talking about the image within the video player. That should be descriptive enough, that gives people an understanding of what they're going to get when they click play, right. So this you should probably think should be customised. Okay, you want to tell them if it is a company profile, perhaps bare minimum might be to say, Hey, here's some interesting insights that will be great value for you. It's got to be some sort of catchy headline. So three things you didn't know about x, y, z, right?

These are the types of things that are going to draw people it's kind of clickbait, it's going to draw people to watch the video to click play, because it curious to see what happens next, right. And if you're being clever about the way that you put the duration, for instance, into that area, you're letting people know how much time they're in for if they click play, you just want to make it as easy as possible and why we say that why we want to try and customise the player position where so that's where it's located on the site.

And also the thumbnail image is because we know that 70% of the time, people will want to watch the video over read text, they want it easier and faster and more consumable than having to read all the boring text, right? So give it to them, give it to them in a format that they're accustomed to. Now, if you change up your player, thumbnail, and you are descriptive about what they're going to get, you will see a 35% increase in the play rate by having a custom thumbnail. A 35% increase by having a custom thumbnail that is a huge lift. When you're looking at trying to increase the number of views of people that you want to consume your video, consume your product consume your business.

And the third point that is going to help increase your views is the player colour. Now you wouldn't think that that's a big deal. But sometimes what we found is that web developers can get their little sticky hands on the video. And because they don't want to interrupt the design and the flow of the page, they can end up putting some sort of a white player button into a web page with no rectangular frame around it and people just lost they don't know where they should go. I've had this example with a client of ours, he said we don't think our video is working. Now I went to the homepage, I scrolled right down through the page up and down and I couldn't find the video player. And because it was literally a tiny little white button in the middle of the page, so and there was actually no context at all to click the video.

And so it made it very difficult and in fact impossible to consume the video because you just couldn't find it. So you want the path of least resistance. The path of least resistance now player colour is important because when you've got a nice bold, bright colour that is it even is off brand to grab attention, that might be the best way for you to pop that in, make sure it's not too busy that people know what to do.

Next, when you give them a nice bright play button, you are basically indicating to them without verbalising anything without saying anything, that they should probably watch the video and that they can use that button to consume more content and watch the video, it's going to be far easier than doing anything else. And you need very minimal words in order to do so.

These are three really great techniques that you can use. We know that they work, they work for us, and they work for our clients. And we've seen a dramatic increase in what people are doing just by changing those three elements. Now if you want more information on how to do this within social for instance, there's different techniques. This is just one way you can do this now and I just want to add one more thing.
