We've all experienced the frustration of receiving unwanted marketing emails or being bombarded with messages that we can't seem to escape, and it's not just annoying. It can erode trust in brands and undermine the overall effectiveness of marketing efforts. Consumers deserve to have their rights respected and their choices honored when it comes to receiving marketing messages. That's why ethical video marketing practices are so important. I'm your host, Chris Schwager, and this is the Video Made Simple podcast.

[00:00:36] The Commonwealth Bank was hit with a 3.5 a million dollar fine with the Australian communications and media authority for breaching spam laws, the investigation found that the bank sent millions of market emails that unlawfully required customers to log in to, to unsubscribe. They also failed to provide a functioning unsubscribed facility in some of their emails and. Uh, absolutely no. Hate that. I know that you, I'm sure that you do too. It's a clear violation of ethical marketing practices and consumer rights.

[00:01:10] What is our responsibility as video marketers? Well, as video marketers, it's a responsibility to ensure that our practices align with ethical stands. We must provide clear information. Honor consumer preferences and comply with relevant regulations. Here's some examples of responsible video marketing practices I think you'll be very interested in. Let's now explore some of these in detail.

[00:01:36] First, be transparent. Clearly communicating the purpose of intentions of the video, ensuring that the viewers understand what they can expect. This builds trust and helps manage expectations.

[00:01:50] Respect viewer privacy. Obtain ex explicit consent before collecting any personal information. You can do this when you've got them on the phone. Just be nice and explain how that information will be used. Viewer privacy should be respected and protected at all times.

[00:02:11] Provide opt out options. Now, most platforms already do this, but you've gotta give viewers the ability to easily opt out of marketing communications. Include clear and accessible unsubscribe links in your video subscription, email newsletters, or other communication channels. Respecting viewers' choice is essential, and I just had a thought.

[00:02:32] Jesus Christ. Digimicon, if you're listening, you guys suck. There's nothing I can do to get these guys off. My email spammed, uh, anti-spam filter is unsubscribed. It is just relentless. I did a presentation for these guys, uh, like six years ago. Uh, and, that it would, I just, I didn't even, oh, it wasn't even an attendee. I was actually a presenter and I've not, it has not stopped since. Um, I, if you've got any ideas on how to slow this down or stop it completely, then I'm all ears. But at the moment, I'm struggling with it.

[00:03:11] Um, now prioritize authenticity. Create genuine and relatable content that resonates with your audience. Avoid using multi, uh, manipulative tactics or misleading information that may exploit viewers. Building trust through authenticity is key.

[00:03:28] And the final one, monitor and respond to the feedback. Actively listening to feedback and engaging in meaningful conversations will allow you to pay attention to comments, views, and and social media interactions related to your videos. And you would've heard me talking about this, I think last week or the week before. It is useful to you to, to get that feedback, address any concerns or criticisms in a respectful and timely manner.

[00:03:53] And this shows that you not only value your audience's opinions, but you can also use that information to be a better video marketer. Now this wraps up today's episode. Thank you Christine, for making this so short and sweet. I love it. I love it. I love it. Um, for the Video Made simple podcast, I hope you found this discussion on ethical video mat. Make it well. Lemme try that again. Ethical video marketing practice is insightful and thought provoking.
